Agartala, July 22: “The Legislative Assembly is a sacred temple of democracy where laws are framed for the welfare of the people,” said Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha while inaugurating the event “Historic July: Footsteps of Tripura Legislative Assembly” at the Assembly lobby. Reflecting on the significance of July, he highlighted that the Tripura Assembly was formed on 1st July 1963 and shifted from Ujjayanta Palace to the new complex on 22nd July 2011. Speaker Biswabandhu Sen noted that legislators are chosen by the blessings of the people and God, while Minister Ratan Lal Nath recalled the state's first Assembly with just 30 MLAs. Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma and Opposition Leader Jitendra Chaudhury also stressed the Assembly’s democratic legacy.
