On September 23, Tripura Police executed a successful operation in Churaibari, intercepting a 12-wheeler lorry en route from Agartala to Guwahati. During the operation, they seized a substantial cache of dry cannabis weighing a staggering 207 kilograms. The lorry driver, identified as Krishan Ali hailing from Basirhat, West Bengal, was promptly apprehended.

Acting on a tip-off received around 5:00 PM, law enforcement officers established a strategic Naka checkpoint in front of the Churaibari police station, situated along the Assam-Tripura state border. As anticipated, the suspect lorry, bearing the registration number WB 239879, arrived at the checkpoint. A meticulous search of the vehicle revealed forty hidden packets containing the illegal contraband. The estimated black market value of this seized cannabis is approximately Rs 30 lakh.

Krishan Ali now faces serious charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He is scheduled to appear before the Dharmanagar district CJM court on September 24, where legal proceedings related to this case will commence. This operation underscores the vigilance and commitment of Tripura Police in combatting the illicit drug trade and maintaining law and order along state borders.
