Prize Distribution Ceremony and Green Drive at A.D. Nagar English Medium School Marks a Day of Celebration and Inspiration

A Story By SAMIR ROY

Agartala, 16 May 2025:
In a vibrant and uplifting atmosphere, the A.D. Nagar English Medium School located at Suryapara, Agartala, held its much-anticipated Prize Distribution Ceremony today. The event, marked by joy and pride, honoured students who excelled in various co-curricular and academic activities throughout the academic session. With colourful performances and smiling faces, the day celebrated not only achievements but also the vision that has shaped the school’s journey over the past few years.

From sit-and-draw competitions, recitation, singing, and dancing, to the recently held science exhibition, students of the school demonstrated their creativity, knowledge, and enthusiasm for learning and performance. These activities are a part of the school’s inclusive approach to education which encourages all-round development and participation beyond textbooks.

The prize distribution ceremony was graced by several dignitaries. Among them, the Councilor (Corporator) and also the Secretary of the School Management Committee, Sri Alok Roy, stood out as a pillar of support for the school. A renowned philanthropist of Tripura, Sri Roy has been instrumental in the transformation of the school from a struggling institution to one of the most promising government-run English medium schools in the city. His unwavering dedication and far-sighted vision have made A.D. Nagar English Medium School a beacon of quality education and community development. Also present at the event was Sri Dulal Saha, the current In-Charge (IC) of the school. Since taking responsibility in 2017, Sri Saha has worked tirelessly alongside Sri Roy to bring progressive changes in the school despite facing numerous challenges. From tackling the post-COVID19 aftermath, managing inadequate funding, to dealing with the shortage of teachers and staff, both these committed leaders have brought the institution to a level that now inspires others.

The school, which started humbly amidst adversity, has now grown into a full-fledged secondary institution with classes up to Grade 10. It is preparing to present its first batch of students for the Secondary Board Examination in the upcoming academic session — a proud milestone for both faculty and students.

Over the past few years, significant infrastructural and educational improvements have taken place. These include the appointment of new, qualified teachers, an efficient non-teaching staff, and the successful implementation of the Mid-Day Meal Scheme. Proper hygiene, regular cleanliness drives, and student awareness programmes have drastically improved the quality of life within the campus.

One of the most remarkable advancements has been in the field of sports. A.D. Nagar English Medium School has earned accolades for its achievements in athletics and team games, often outperforming other government schools in Agartala. From football to yoga, students here are actively encouraged to maintain physical health and team spirit.

Furthermore, the school has taken a leap forward in digital education by introducing Smart Classes. Equipped with digital boards, projectors, and e-learning content, this initiative has significantly enhanced classroom learning, making it more interactive and effective for students of various learning styles. This move aligns with the Digital India mission and ensures that students in government schools are not left behind in the modern education race.

Development is still ongoing. Sri Alok Roy has already chalked out a plan for building extension, as the current infrastructure is being outgrown by the increasing number of admissions. The proposed expansion will provide new classrooms and facilities, helping accommodate the growing student body without compromising the quality of education.

Adding to the significance of the day, a tree plantation drive titled "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" was also organised at the school premises. This noble initiative, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to encourage every citizen to plant a tree in honour of their mother — combining the values of love, respect, and environmental responsibility. Students, teachers, and guests enthusiastically took part in the plantation drive, expressing their commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.

The plantation drive was not just symbolic; it was also educational. It allowed students to understand the value of green cover, biodiversity, and ecological balance. Teachers took the opportunity to explain how such small actions can contribute significantly to combatting climate change and conserving natural resources for future generations.

The event concluded with heartfelt speeches from both Sri Alok Roy and Sri Dulal Saha. Sri Roy expressed his gratitude towards the teaching and non-teaching staff for their dedication. He encouraged students to always strive for excellence and to take full advantage of the facilities now available to them. He also reaffirmed his commitment to the school's continued development, promising more academic and co-curricular opportunities in the future.

Sri Dulal Saha shared the journey of the school with the audience — from the days of uncertainty during the pandemic to today's success. He said, “Our aim was always clear — to provide quality education in English medium to children from all backgrounds. We wanted to bridge the gap and bring equal opportunities to all.” He further emphasised the importance of holistic education, character-building, and self-discipline.

The programme ended with the national anthem and a photo session with all the prize-winners, their parents, and the dignitaries. The excitement, pride, and hope visible on the faces of the students were a clear indication that the school is not just imparting education — it is shaping futures.

The event has set a positive tone for the school’s upcoming academic year and reasserted the importance of community involvement in the development of public educational institutions. With the ongoing efforts of dedicated individuals like Alok Roy and Dulal Saha, A.D. Nagar English Medium School stands tall as a shining example of what passion, leadership, and perseverance can achieve in the field of education.
