The Power Minister of Tripura has announced ambitious plans to equip all government buildings with rooftop solar panels and develop solar parks.

Tripura's Power Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, has unveiled an ambitious plan to enhance the state's sustainability efforts by introducing rooftop solar panels on all government buildings and constructing solar parks. The announcement reflects Tripura's commitment to harness renewable energy sources for a cleaner and greener future.

In a significant step towards renewable energy generation, a high-level meeting was convened in New Delhi, attended by power ministers and secretaries from the North Eastern states, along with Union Power Minister RK Singh and the Secretary of the Union Power Ministry. The discussion primarily revolved around various proposals and initiatives aimed at boosting renewable energy production in the region, particularly within Tripura.

Minister Nath emphasized the state's reliance on gas-based and coal power plants, which are gradually diminishing. Consequently, Tripura has shifted its focus towards renewable energy production as a priority. To achieve its goal of generating 500 MW of renewable energy by 2030, the state government envisions the storage of 2000 MW of solar power.

In pursuit of this ambitious target, a project with an estimated cost of around Rs 20,000 crore will be initiated for the North Eastern states, with Tripura standing to benefit significantly. The strategy involves the gradual installation of rooftop solar panels on all government institutions and residences throughout the state. Additionally, plans are underway for the construction of solar parks, floating solar power plants, hydro pump storage facilities, utilizing solar electricity for agricultural irrigation, establishing solar villages and cities, implementing large-scale hydro projects, and promoting electric vehicle adoption.

This comprehensive approach underscores Tripura's dedication to not only meeting its renewable energy goals but also contributing to the broader regional and national objectives of sustainable and clean energy sources. With a focus on reducing carbon emissions and embracing renewable technologies, Tripura is poised to make a significant impact on India's renewable energy landscape, setting an example for other states to follow in the pursuit of a cleaner and more sustainable future.
