The state of Tripura has initiated the installation of a 30-megawatt small hydro power plant project. Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha made this announcement.

 


Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha has announced the commencement of work by Tripura Power Generation Limited (TPGL) for the installation of 30-megawatt small hydropower plants in different locations within the state during a workshop on "Energy Transition of Tripura" held at Hotel Polo Tower. Dr. Saha emphasized the global importance of renewable energy in maintaining a clean environment and conserving resources for future generations. He highlighted India's commitment to promoting renewable energy, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent emphasis on it at the G20 summit.


Dr. Saha also mentioned the state's infrastructure development efforts, with a focus on establishing renewable energy centers. He noted that Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) has already set up 20-megawatt renewable energy plants, and TPGL is working on 120-megawatt and 84-megawatt Combined Cycle Power Plant projects, along with the installation of 30-megawatt small hydropower plants across Tripura. TREDA has set a target of generating 500 megawatts of renewable power by 2030 through various means, including solar grid power, floating solar, canal solar, rooftop, micro tech solar, and more.
