AYUSHMAN BHARAT: TRIPURA'S BOLD STEP TOWARDS STUDENT WELLNESS

Agartala, Nov 30 (PTI): In a landmark initiative that promises to redefine student healthcare, Tripura's Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha launched the Ayushman Bharat School Health Mission, signaling a comprehensive approach to nurturing the state's young population.

The mission, unveiled yesterday at the Rabindra Centenary Hall, targets a holistic transformation of student health, initially covering 125 Vidyajyoti schools and benefiting approximately 90,000 students across the state.

Speaking at the launch, Chief Minister Saha emphasized that the program transcends traditional healthcare paradigms. "Education is not merely about academic achievement," he declared. "Our mission is to develop children who are physically robust, mentally resilient, and spiritually enlightened."

The ambitious program integrates multiple healthcare dimensions, including child health monitoring, menstrual hygiene management, nutritional supplementation, deworming initiatives, tobacco control, and comprehensive wellness programs.

Health Department Secretary Kiran Gitye elaborated on the mission's strategic framework. "We are creating an ecosystem that prioritizes student well-being," Gitye explained. "This is about building a foundation for lifelong health and development."

NITI Aayog member Dr. V.K. Pal underscored the broader societal implications of the initiative. He noted that schools are fundamental platforms for national transformation, and investing in student health is tantamount to investing in India's future.

The pilot phase will meticulously document health interventions, tracking everything from nutritional status to mental health indicators. Preliminary assessments suggest the potential for significant improvements in student overall well-being.

Experts present at the launch event unanimously praised the mission's multidimensional approach. The program stands out for its integrated strategy that goes beyond traditional medical interventions, focusing on creating awareness and building sustainable health practices.

The launch event was marked by the felicitation of various districts and health centers that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to child health programs. A documentary highlighting the National Health Mission was also screened, providing insights into the broader healthcare transformation underway.

While the initial rollout covers 125 schools, government officials hint at a comprehensive expansion plan. The success of this pilot could potentially establish a replicable model for other states, making Tripura a potential trendsetter in school healthcare.

Dr. Raval Hemendra Kumar, Special Secretary of the Education Department, emphasized the collaborative nature of the mission. "This is not just a government program," he stated. "It's a collective commitment to our children's future."

The mission reflects a growing recognition that student health is not a peripheral concern but a central element of educational development. By addressing physical, mental, and nutritional needs simultaneously, Tripura is charting a progressive path in educational policy.

As the Ayushman Bharat School Health Mission takes its first steps, it represents more than a healthcare initiative. It embodies a vision of education that sees students not just as learners, but as holistic individuals deserving comprehensive care and support.

The coming months will be crucial in determining the mission's impact, with education and health experts closely monitoring its implementation and outcomes.
