Red Run Competition Raises Critical Awareness of AIDS and Drug Addiction in West Tripura

The West Tripura AIDS Control Unit, in collaboration with the Tripura State AIDS Society, successfully organised the Red Run Competition at Agartala's Umakanta Ground, transforming a sporting event into a powerful platform for social awareness.







Prominent local dignitaries, including Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Deepak Majumdar and West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, inaugurated the event. The competition featured separate 5-kilometre races for men and women, with top performers receiving awards and prize money.


Key Highlights:

- Separate race categories for men and women

- Top 15 finishers in each category awarded

- Focus on AIDS and drug addiction awareness



SP Traffic Sudhambika AR delivered a compelling address, expressing significant concerns about escalating youth drug addiction. Her insights highlighted critical social challenges:

- Root causes of addiction attributed to limited awareness

- Psychological gaps in child development

- Risks associated with experimental drug use


Dr. Vishal Kumar emphasised the importance of comprehensive health strategies, recommending:

- Mandatory HIV testing for students

- Comprehensive treatment programmes

- Support for individuals to lead normal lives


The event demonstrated a multi-faceted approach to public health awareness, integrating physical activity with critical social messaging. By combining athletic competition with educational outreach, organisers effectively engaged the community in addressing sensitive health issues.


The competitive format enabled participants to contribute meaningfully to public health discourse while promoting physical fitness and social responsibility.

Winners received cheques recognising their athletic achievements, simultaneously reinforcing the event's core message of community health and awareness.
