Healthcare Support Staff Crisis: GB Hospital Workers Demand Basic Rights




A significant protest erupted at the Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital as Sulabh workers, essential to maintaining hospital hygiene and sanitation, staged a mass sit-in demanding their unpaid wages. The demonstration highlights a concerning situation where these crucial healthcare support staff have been working without compensation for up to three months.


The workers, who ensure cleanliness and sanitation in one of Tripura's largest medical facilities, are facing severe financial hardship due to delayed payments. Their demands include not only the immediate release of pending salaries but also a wage revision to cope with escalating living costs.



This situation raises serious concerns about the stability of hospital operations, as these workers play a vital role in maintaining hygiene standards and preventing healthcare-associated infections. The prolonged delay in salary disbursement threatens to disrupt essential services at the hospital, potentially impacting patient care and safety.


The protest underscores a broader issue of employment security and fair compensation for healthcare support staff. As these workers continue their peaceful demonstration, their situation demands immediate attention from both hospital administration and state authorities to prevent any compromise in healthcare delivery services.
