Tripura Transport Pensioners Press for Leave Salary Settlement and Pension Revision

AGARTALA, December 21, 2024 - Members of the Tripura State Government Undertaking EPF Pensioners' Association have renewed their call for the settlement of long-pending leave salary dues and a substantial increase in monthly pension benefits. The demands were voiced during a discussion meeting held today, focusing on the welfare of Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC) pensioners.

The association highlighted a significant High Court ruling that mandates both the state government and TRTC authorities to address leave salary claims dating back to 1995. Pensioners at the meeting emphasized the urgency of settling these outstanding dues, requesting resolution within the upcoming financial year.

A key focus of their demands was the proposed revision of monthly pension payments. The association is seeking a fivefold increase in the current pension amount, from ₹2,000 to ₹10,000, citing the escalating cost of living and financial hardships faced by retired employees.

The meeting served as a platform for pensioners to voice their concerns about the prolonged delay in implementing the court's directives regarding leave salary settlement. The association stressed that many retired employees are facing significant financial challenges due to the delayed payments and inadequate pension amounts.

The pensioners' association urged the government to take immediate action on both fronts - the settlement of historical leave salary dues and the revision of monthly pension benefits. Their appeal underscores the growing financial pressure on retired TRTC employees who have served the state's transportation sector for decades.
