Report: Journalist Recreation Club Defeats Information & Culture Department in Friendly Cricket Match

 


Agartala, February 23: The Journalist Recreation Club (JRC) continued their winning streak by defeating the Information & Culture Department’s cricket team in a friendly match held at the Bholagiri Stadium Ground on Sunday. The match, played in a spirit of camaraderie, saw the JRC team chase down a target of 74 runs with ease, securing a comfortable victory.

Winning the toss, the Information & Culture Department, led by Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya, opted to bat first. They posted a total of 73 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 16 overs. Notable contributions came from Saptadweep Majumdar (13 runs), Bimbisar Bhattacharya (4 runs), and Gautam Banik (7* runs). For JRC, Divyendu De was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for just 8 runs, while Captain Abhishek De, Proshenjit Saha, and Biswajit Deb Nath claimed one wicket each.

In response, JRC started shakily but soon found their rhythm through a solid partnership between Vishnupad Banik (14 runs) and Abhishek Deb Barman (16 runs). Later, Divyendu De (6*) and Biswajit Deb Nath (14*) guided the team to victory in just 10.4 overs. For the Information & Culture Department, Saptadweep Majumdar took 2 wickets, while Gautam Banik, Romen Ghosh, and Tapojit Chakraborty claimed one wicket each.

Post-match, a prize distribution ceremony was held. Divyendu De of JRC was awarded the Player of the Match trophy for his all-round performance. The runners-up trophy was presented to the Information & Culture Department by JRC President Suprobhat Deb Nath and Secretary Abhishek De. The champion trophy was handed over to JRC by Bimbisar Bhattacharya, who expressed his joy over the friendly match and emphasized the importance of such recreational activities in fostering teamwork and camaraderie.

JRC Captain Abhishek De highlighted the strong bond between the two teams, while President Suprobhat Deb Nath thanked the players, umpires, and organizers for making the event a success. The day concluded on a high note, with both teams enjoying the spirit of sportsmanship and friendship.
