Mayor Dipak Majumder inaugurates Puthi Panchali path festival at Agartala

 

Mangal Kavya and Puthi-Panchali Recitation Festival Organised by the Department of Information & Culture

Agartala, March 20: The Department of Information & Culture organised the Mangal Kavya and Puthi-Panchali Recitation Festival – 2025 on Wednesday at the Bonkumari Samar Smriti Bhavan. The event was aimed at preserving and promoting the rich literary and cultural heritage of Bengal, particularly the traditional oral recitation of historical and mythological texts.

Honourable Mayor Deepak Majumdar graced the occasion as the chief guest. Also present were Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta and several other dignitaries, cultural enthusiasts, and scholars. The festival featured recitations of Mangal Kavya, which narrates the legends of deities and heroic figures, along with Puthi-Panchali, a traditional form of storytelling in poetic verses.

During the event, speakers highlighted the significance of these art forms in preserving indigenous narratives and fostering a sense of cultural identity among the younger generation. Mayor Deepak Majumdar, in his address, appreciated the initiative and emphasised the need for continued efforts to protect and promote regional literary traditions. He also encouraged the youth to engage in such cultural activities to understand their historical roots better.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from scholars, cultural activists, and students, making it a successful celebration of Bengal’s oral literary heritage. The organisers expressed their commitment to continuing similar events in the future to uphold and propagate the cultural wealth of the region.
