Ration Card Digitalisation in Tripura at Risk Due to Consumer Negligence

The Tripura government is taking various steps to digitise ration cards, including linking them with Aadhaar and implementing the One Nation, One Ration Card scheme. The Food Department has set 31st March as the deadline for linking ration cards with Aadhaar to ensure smooth implementation. Notably, Tripura is the first northeastern state to successfully introduce this national scheme.

To facilitate the process, the government has developed an online platform integrating the ration card database with other welfare schemes. Through this digital initiative, beneficiaries can avail themselves of ration services from any part of the country. However, despite the government’s repeated announcements, many ration cardholders in the state have not yet completed the KYC process. With only eight days left until the deadline, more than half of the beneficiaries are yet to link their Aadhaar with their ration cards.

This lack of urgency among consumers could hinder the government’s efforts to streamline the public distribution system. Ration dealers have urged all beneficiaries to visit their respective fair price shops before 31st March with their Aadhaar and ration cards to complete the KYC process. They emphasised that timely participation is essential for the successful implementation of the government’s welfare initiative.

If consumers fail to comply within the stipulated time, they may face difficulties in accessing ration benefits in the future. The authorities are therefore urging all eligible individuals to act promptly and support the government’s mission to digitise the ration distribution system efficiently.
