Tripura Celebrates International Women’s Day 2025 with Grand Event




Agartala, 13th  March: The International Women’s Day 2025 celebrations in Tripura concluded today with a grand event at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, organised by the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education, Government of Tripura. The 13-day-long celebration, which began on 1st March, featured a series of programmes aimed at promoting women's empowerment, gender equality, and social awareness.  


Honourable Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and inaugurator of the event. Other notable attendees included Tripura Women’s Commission Chairperson Smt. Jharna Debbarma, Child Rights Protection Commission Chairperson Jayanti Debbarma, Secretary of Social Welfare and Social Education Department Tapas Roy, and other dignitaries.  


In his address, CM Manik Saha emphasised the pivotal role of women’s empowerment in national development, noting that women enjoyed equal status in ancient times. He stressed the importance of eradicating child marriage and ensuring equal rights for women. He also highlighted various government schemes designed to benefit women and underprivileged groups.  


Social Welfare Minister Shri Tinku Roy spoke about the legal implications of teenage pregnancy, stating that pregnant girls under 19 years of age would not be eligible for government benefits, as per the law.  


A key highlight of the event was a video message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who reiterated the government’s commitment to women’s welfare. He referenced BJP National President JP Nadda’s recent announcement about a new scheme in Tripura, under which a fixed deposit bond will be issued for every newborn girl child, maturing when she turns 18.  


The event concluded with the felicitation of women achievers and beneficiaries, recognising their contributions across various sectors. The Chief Minister also spoke about new acts and amendments to ensure women’s safety in workplaces, including measures to prevent sexual harassment. He highlighted the establishment of Internal Complaint Committees in workplaces and the Mahila Thana (Women’s Police Station) in Tripura, which is entirely run by women.  


Additionally, the Chief Minister pledged to spread awareness about various beneficiary schemes for women and mentioned that the Ministry of Doner has sanctioned funds for initiatives supporting pregnant women for proper birth delivery. The celebrations reinforced the state’s commitment to women’s empowerment and gender equality.
