Tripura CM Inaugurates Brahmakunda Mela, Announces ₹14 Crore for Development

Agartala, April 4, 2025: Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today reaffirmed the state government's commitment to preserving the traditions and cultural heritage of Tripura’s indigenous communities. He announced that ₹14 crore has been sanctioned for the beautification and further development of the Brahmakunda Mela premises. The Chief Minister made this announcement while inaugurating the Brahmakunda Mela at Simna in Mohanpur Sub-Division under the West Tripura district.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Saha highlighted the deep cultural significance of the fair, stating, “Brahmakunda Mela is an age-old tradition, held twice a year, where people perform religious rites in remembrance of their ancestors. Earlier, many devotees from Bangladesh used to attend, but due to the current circumstances, their participation has reduced. However, the enthusiasm of local people remains strong, and this fair is a symbol of our rich heritage. Through such events, we reinforce our vision of ‘Ek Tripura, Srestha Tripura.’ The overwhelming presence of women here is also noteworthy, reflecting their deep-rooted connection with traditions.”

The Chief Minister further stated that such fairs are not just about religious or cultural activities but also play a significant role in fostering community bonding and economic opportunities. He said, “This mela will continue for three days, offering visitors a chance to witness and learn about our glorious traditions. Our government is taking significant steps to protect and promote the unique cultural identities of the 19 tribal communities of Tripura. The ₹14 crore allocated for this area’s development will help improve infrastructure, attract more visitors, and encourage investment, leading to overall progress. Just as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is dedicated to nation-building, our government is working with the same spirit for the welfare of Tripura.”

The inaugural event was attended by Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Brishketu Debbarma, Acting Sabhadhipati of Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad Bishwajit Shil, Chairman of Tripura Tea Development Corporation Samir Ranjan Ghosh, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Director of ICA Department Bimbisar Bhattacharya, and several other dignitaries.
