Tripura CM Stresses Investment Promotion in NE Region; Calls for Focus on Rubber, Bamboo & Tourism Sectors

Agartala, April 02, 2025

Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today emphasized the need for aggressive promotion to attract investors to Tripura, highlighting the state’s untapped potential in rubber, agarwood, pineapple, and bamboo-based industries. Speaking at a preparatory meeting of the High-Level Task Force of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), Dr. Saha stated that improved connectivity and government reforms have significantly enhanced Tripura’s investment prospects.

The meeting, held at the Secretariat, aimed to strategize investment promotion in Northeast India. Dr. Saha, who is the convener of the task force, noted that Tripura offers lucrative opportunities across multiple sectors, particularly tourism. “The state government has prioritized ease of doing business, including land reforms, to facilitate investors. However, we must intensify promotional efforts to showcase these opportunities,” he said.

The Chief Minister pointed out that while the state has recently signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with several investment agencies, implementation remains crucial. “Merely signing agreements is not enough; we must ensure their execution to bring tangible results,” he added. He also urged departments to adopt structured plans to harness sectors like logistics, IT, and renewable energy.

Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Good Governance Secretary Kiran Gitte, and other senior officials attended the meeting. The task force, formed after the 72nd NEC plenary in December 2024, will prepare a roadmap to position the Northeast as a preferred investment hub. Key focus areas include inter-state investment coordination, infrastructure development, and public-private partnerships (PPP).

Dr. Saha stressed that Tripura’s scenic beauty and cultural heritage make it ideal for tourism investments. “With proper promotion, the state can emerge as a major tourist destination, generating employment and boosting the economy,” he said. The task force’s recommendations will be submitted to MDoNER for further action, paving the way for sustainable development in the region.

The meeting concluded with a resolve to accelerate investment-friendly policies and targeted campaigns to attract industries, aligning with Tripura’s vision for economic growth.
