Agartala, May 2:
A massive fire broke out around 10 AM on Thursday at the Hapania market, reducing six shops to ashes. The affected establishments include four fast food stalls, a sweet shop, and a fruit stall. The incident sparked panic among locals and traders.
Upon receiving the information, fire tenders rushed to the spot and managed to douse the flames after intense efforts. Although no casualties were reported, the shops suffered extensive damage. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire might have originated from an electrical short circuit.
Local MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Deepak Majumder, South Zone Chairperson and Corporator Abhijit Mallick, Corporator Bapi Das, and local Corporator Sabita Kar promptly visited the site. They assessed the damage and spoke to the affected shop owners in detail.
Speaking to the media, Mayor Deepak Majumder assured, “The state government and the Agartala Municipal Corporation stand firmly with the victims. Immediate steps will be taken to provide assistance and compensation.”
MLA Mina Rani Sarkar also extended her support, stating, “We are deeply concerned for those affected. The administration will take all necessary actions to help them recover their losses.”
The civic and local administrative bodies are expected to initiate rehabilitation efforts soon. Meanwhile, the market remains tense as business owners assess their losses and await government aid.
The authorities have also indicated plans to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident to prevent such occurrences in the future.
