Subheading: Taj Pushpabanta Palace Hotel to transform heritage tourism in Tripura
Agartala, May 21, 2025:
Tripura has embarked on a landmark tourism initiative with the signing of a lease agreement with Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) to develop the Taj Pushpabanta Palace Hotel in Agartala — the state’s first luxury hotel under the iconic Taj brand.
The agreement will enable the conversion of the historic Pushpabanta Palace into a premium heritage property. Originally built in 1917 by the erstwhile Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya Deb Barman Bahadur, the palace is a notable symbol of Tripura’s royal past. The renovated hotel will maintain the architectural essence of the palace, complemented by 100 high-end rooms, state banquet facilities, wellness areas, and leisure spaces such as swimming pools and play zones.
Under the 60-year lease with a 30-year renewal clause, IHCL will manage the hotel operations. This collaboration marks a significant public-private partnership to enhance the state’s tourism footprint.
Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, who graced the signing event, said, “This hotel will not only preserve our cultural heritage but also provide world-class hospitality services that appeal to both domestic and international tourists.”
Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury described the project as a new chapter in Tripura’s development journey. He praised the Chief Minister’s efforts to bring such transformative initiatives to life and highlighted the employment potential and training opportunities it would create.
IHCL’s Area Director Jayanta Das lauded the Tripura government’s support and commitment, affirming that the brand will bring luxury hospitality to the state without compromising its historical values.
Senior state officials, along with tourism stakeholders, were in attendance. The project is expected to reach completion in the next two years and significantly enhance Tripura’s image as a vibrant tourist hotspot.
