NCERT Officials Seize Counterfeit Textbooks in Agartala Raid

A joint operation conducted by officials from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) led to the discovery and seizure of counterfeit textbooks from two bookstores in Agartala, Tripura. The raid, carried out on Thursday, targeted establishments in Orient Chowmuhani and Joynagar areas following persistent complaints of illegal book trading in the region.

The investigation team, comprising representatives from NCERT's Delhi headquarters and Guwahati Regional Centre, acted on intelligence received at the Delhi office regarding the distribution of unauthorized textbooks. During the operation, authorities uncovered a significant quantity of pirated NCERT materials that were being sold to students.

Officials reported that the seized books were of substandard quality, indicating they were produced at unauthorized printing facilities. These counterfeit materials were being distributed among students, potentially compromising their educational experience. Local police assisted in the operation and confiscated the illegal inventory from both establishments.

The raid highlights the growing concern over the circulation of fake educational materials in the region. NCERT authorities emphasized that such unauthorized reproductions not only violate intellectual property rights but also potentially harm students' learning experience due to their inferior quality and possible content errors.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that legal action would be initiated against the proprietors of both bookstores involved in the illegal trade. This enforcement action is part of a broader effort to protect students' interests and maintain the integrity of educational materials in the market.

The crackdown demonstrates NCERT's commitment to ensuring that students have access to genuine, high-quality textbooks. Educational authorities have urged parents and schools to remain vigilant and purchase textbooks only from authorized vendors to avoid supporting the illegal book trade and to ensure students receive authentic NCERT materials.
