CM Dr. Manik Saha Pays Surprise Visit to IGM Hospital and Dental College, Emphasises Better Patient Care

Agartala, April 5: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha made a surprise inspection visit to IGM Hospital and the Agartala Government Dental College on Friday, aiming to assess healthcare services and infrastructure first-hand. Holding the Health portfolio, Dr. Saha interacted directly with doctors, nurses, and hospital staff, stressing the importance of closing any gaps in patient care and improving service delivery.

IGM Hospital, located in the heart of Agartala, is one of the oldest and busiest hospitals in the state. Acknowledging the immense pressure faced by the medical team, Dr. Saha appreciated the dedication of the healthcare workers. “Even under tremendous patient load, the doctors and health staff are providing commendable services,” he said. However, he also highlighted some concerns, particularly regarding cleanliness and overcrowding.

He pointed out that the burden of patients often leads to hygiene issues and noted the lack of awareness among patients' attendants regarding maintaining cleanliness. “These challenges need to be addressed,” he said, adding that the government is committed to resolving such issues by learning from the efficiency of the corporate sector, even though public hospitals often spend more than private institutions.

During the visit, Dr. Saha spoke with the Medical Superintendent and checked the condition of the hospital’s infrastructure, including the seating areas and patient inflow. He also visited the dental college and reviewed staff attendance and the general functioning of the hospital.

“I came here without any prior notice. My objective was to observe the ground realities. We must identify shortcomings, however minor, and rectify them to ensure 100 percent service delivery,” Dr. Saha remarked. He reiterated that problems will arise in a high-demand public health facility, but with timely intervention and efficient management, they can be solved.

Dr. Saha’s visit underlined the government's continued focus on strengthening the healthcare system in Tripura and ensuring accountability across medical institutions.
