Repeat Offender Nabbed with 2,000 Yaba Tablets in Agartala

Agartala, April 5: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Agartala West Police detained a habitual offender, Mangal Deep Biswas, late Thursday night from the Battala Market area for possession of a large quantity of Yaba tablets. Acting on a tip-off, law enforcement officials seized approximately 2,000 Yaba tablets from Biswas, with the market value estimated at over ₹2.5 lakh.

According to SDPO Debprasad Roy, the accused is a repeat offender and had previously been convicted under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in 2023. He has now been arrested once again for his alleged involvement in drug peddling activities. Police confirmed that the accused will be produced before the court on Friday, where a remand plea will be filed for further investigation.

The arrest has sparked serious concern about the ongoing drug trade in the region, but police officials assured that strong legal action is being taken. “We are committed to uprooting the drug menace from our society. This arrest is a part of our continuous surveillance and operation against narcotics,” stated an officer involved in the raid.

The seizure has brought relief to the local community, as Battala Market and surrounding areas have often been suspected hotspots for drug-related activities. Authorities confirmed that the investigation is still underway to uncover any possible network linked to the accused.

This arrest marks another step forward in Tripura Police’s ongoing campaign against illegal drug circulation.
