While millions enjoyed the celestial spectacle of the total lunar eclipse , religious traditions and superstitions also came to the fore. Major temples including Tirumala’s Lord Venkateswara Temple and shrines in Uttarakhand like Badrinath and Kedarnath closed their doors during the eclipse, observing the “Sutak” period considered inauspicious in Hindu belief. Devotees performed special pujas and rituals before closure. In Haridwar, the Ganga Aarti was conducted in the afternoon instead of the evening. Many households followed age-old customs, with some avoiding food during the eclipse and pregnant women advised not to step outside. Scientists, however, reiterated that a lunar eclipse is purely a natural astronomical event and completely safe to watch.
