Agartala, May 6: In a significant move towards strengthening disaster management infrastructure and inter-agency coordination, the Government of Tripura will conduct a comprehensive Civil Defence Mock Drill across all districts on May 7 (Wednesday), in accordance with directives issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
At a press conference held at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey stated that the statewide mock exercise would be coordinated by District Disaster Management Authorities in partnership with District Civil Defence Corps. The event will include participation from key emergency response stakeholders such as the police, fire and rescue services, health departments, and Civil Defence volunteers.
“The main aim of this exercise is to test the effectiveness of our alert systems, evaluate evacuation strategies, and gauge the synergy between multiple agencies during crises like air raids or natural disasters,” Pandey said. He emphasised that such drills are crucial for refining protocols and reducing response time during real emergencies.
The mock drill will simulate hostile scenarios including air raid warnings, evacuation procedures, search and rescue operations, first aid delivery, firefighting responses, and the restoration of essential services. Citizens have been urged to remain calm and cooperative during the exercises, which are strictly precautionary.
Trained Civil Defence Volunteers will play a pivotal role in the drill, showcasing their capacity to act as frontline responders. According to officials, these volunteers have been deployed across all districts and are vital assets in building a robust community-level disaster response mechanism.
West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar announced that the district’s exercise will take place at Umakanta Academy ground from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Sirens simulating air raid alerts will be sounded at 4:00 PM and again at 5:30 PM.
The event is being closely supervised by Civil Defence Director J.B. Doati and State Disaster Management Project Officer Sarat Kumar Das, ensuring readiness and logistical support for the entire state-level mock operation.
