Foundation Stone Laid for ₹67 Crore Tourism Infrastructure Project in Amarpur
Agartala, May 6: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday announced the state government's intent to deploy newly recruited Special Executives as tourist police, with the aim of strengthening safety, security, and visitor assistance at major tourism locations. The move, expected to enhance the tourist experience and promote the state's tourism sector, awaits the final publication of a list comprising 6,067 selected Special Executives.
Dr. Saha made the announcement while laying the foundation stone of a ₹67 crore tourism infrastructure project, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), at Amarpur in the Gomati district. The project includes developments at prominent tourist destinations such as Chabimura, Fatik Sagar, and Amar Sagar.
“Tripura has immense potential in the tourism sector,” said the Chief Minister, referring to major attractions like Neermahal, Dumboor Lake, and several archaeological sites. He stressed the government’s focus on building modern facilities and improving connectivity to draw more visitors to the state.
Calling upon citizens to support tourism promotion through social media, Dr. Saha emphasised the need for public participation in projecting Tripura’s rich heritage and natural beauty to the wider world.
In the wake of recent violence in Pahalgam, he assured that Tripura remains peaceful and insurgency-free, making it a safe destination for tourists. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for restoring stability in the region.
Dr. Saha also criticised previous Communist and Congress-led governments for their failure to realise Tripura’s tourism potential, noting that his administration has already taken proactive steps in this direction. He praised Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury for his efforts and expressed confidence that Tripura would soon earn global recognition as a tourist hotspot.
Tourism Secretary U.K. Chakma, Director Prashant Badal Negi, Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma, and Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak were present at the event. As part of his Amarpur visit, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the newly constructed Thakchara Gram Panchayat building.
