Agartala, May 7: In a significant step towards transforming the educational landscape in Tripura, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday said that the "Saharsh" curriculum aims to offer children a joyful, pressure-free learning experience. The statement was made during the inaugural event of Saharsh Utsav 2025, held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan in Agartala.
Dr. Saha, who also holds the Education portfolio, said the Saharsh curriculum, developed jointly by NCERT and SCERT, is the first of its kind in Northeast India. "This initiative seeks to move beyond textbook-based education by creating an environment where children can learn with happiness and enthusiasm," he stated.
“The objective is not merely academic excellence but also emotional and intellectual development,” he noted. He said that the curriculum has been carefully designed to align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which also advocates for stress-free learning and creative thinking.
Dr. Saha mentioned that the Saharsh curriculum, implemented from Classes I to VIII, has already gained traction among students. “This is not a typical syllabus. It is an enrichment activity that nurtures curiosity, humanity, compassion, fearlessness, and patriotism in children,” he explained.
He further emphasized that this innovative curriculum started in 2023, making Tripura a pioneer state in adopting such student-centric educational reforms in the region. “The success of this initiative is due to the collaborative efforts of educators, teachers, trainers, and policymakers who have put children’s holistic development at the centre,” he added.
The Chief Minister lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on transforming education through NEP 2020 and reiterated that unless the foundation of education is strong, students will lose interest in learning. “We must make learning joyful and deeply ingrained in the hearts of children, allowing them to think creatively and develop their inner potential for the nation’s benefit,” he added.
The event was graced by Special Secretary of the Education Department Ravel Hemendra Kumar, Director of Education N.C. Sharma, Director of SCERT L. Darlong, and Harvard Graduate School of Education’s UN Young Leader Richa Gupta, along with other senior officials.
Dr. Saha concluded by saying that Tripura is steadily moving ahead in all sectors, and this progressive educational reform is one more step towards the holistic development of the state’s young generation.
