Awareness Camp on PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana Held in Agartala

Agartala, February 21: An awareness and registration camp for the Prime Minister’s Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana was organized on Wednesday at the Agartala Municipal Corporation headquarters. The event, held in collaboration with the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited and the Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission, was inaugurated by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumder. Corporators Ratna Dutta, Nibas Das, Nitu Guha De, and others were also present.

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13, 2024, the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana aims to achieve 500 gigawatts of solar power generation by 2030. So far, 200 gigawatts of solar power generation has been achieved nationwide. Under this scheme, residential consumers can install solar panels on their rooftops, with a maximum capacity of 3 kilowatts. Excess electricity generated can be sold to the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited.

The scheme offers subsidies for solar panel installations: ₹33,000 per kilowatt for the first kilowatt, ₹66,000 for the first two kilowatts, and a maximum subsidy of ₹85,800 for 3 kilowatts. The initiative aims to promote renewable energy and reduce electricity costs for households while contributing to environmental sustainability.
