Bangladesh Assistant High Commission Observes International Mother Language Day in Tripura

Agartala, February 21: On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Tripura paid tribute to the language martyrs by hoisting the national flag of Bangladesh at half-mast and offering floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar (Martyrs' Memorial). The solemn ceremony was attended by Assistant High Commissioner Arif Mohammed and other officials from the commission.

The observance commemorates the sacrifices made by the language martyrs of Bangladesh during the 1952 Language Movement, which sought to establish Bengali as the state language of then East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). The day holds deep significance for both Bangladesh and the global Bengali-speaking community, symbolizing the struggle for linguistic and cultural rights.

Assistant High Commissioner Arif Mohammed emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting mother languages, highlighting their role in shaping cultural identity and heritage. The event served as a reminder of the sacrifices made to uphold linguistic diversity and the need to continue efforts to protect and celebrate all languages.

The ceremony was a poignant tribute to the martyrs and a reaffirmation of the shared cultural bonds between Bangladesh and the Bengali-speaking community in Tripura. It also underscored the universal message of International Mother Language Day: the importance of linguistic diversity and the right to speak one's mother tongue.
