The week-long celebration commemorating the 135th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B. R. Ambedkar concluded today with a special seminar at the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala. The programme was jointly organised by the West Tripura District Administration and the Department of Welfare for Scheduled Castes.
Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha attended the concluding ceremony and participated in the seminar titled "Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and Social Justice." Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha described Dr. Ambedkar as the pioneer of a socially equitable India, highlighting his monumental role as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and the country's first Law Minister.
"Dr. B. R. Ambedkar was not just a leader but a visionary who dedicated his entire life to the cause of eliminating social discrimination and ensuring justice for the marginalised," said the Chief Minister. Dr. Saha elaborated on the various government initiatives currently underway in Tripura aimed at establishing social justice and promoting the ideals advocated by Babasaheb Ambedkar. He urged citizens to draw inspiration from Ambedkar's life and continue striving towards a more inclusive and equitable society.
As part of the celebration, a series of competitions were organised during the week, including essay writing, painting, and debates focused on Ambedkar’s life and philosophy. The Chief Minister personally felicitated the winners, awarding them certificates and prizes for their outstanding performances. He praised the enthusiasm shown by the young participants and emphasised the importance of nurturing awareness about social justice among the new generation.
Several dignitaries, officials, and representatives from various social organisations were present during the event. The seminar witnessed vibrant discussions on Dr. Ambedkar’s contributions towards constitutional rights, equality, and the upliftment of the oppressed communities. Speakers unanimously agreed that Ambedkar’s vision remains deeply relevant even today.
The week-long programme, which included lectures, cultural programmes, and awareness drives, aimed to spread Babasaheb’s message across all sections of society. The Department of Welfare for Scheduled Castes expressed their commitment to continue working towards fulfilling Dr. Ambedkar’s dream of a just and fair India.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, marking a successful end to the commemorative week honouring one of India’s greatest sons.
