Agartala, May 31: Torrential rain lashed the city early Saturday morning, triggering severe waterlogging in several areas, including the crucial Math Chowmuhani junction in Agartala. The heavy rainfall led to traffic congestion and stranded commuters during the morning rush hour.
Amid the confusion and delay, BJP Tripura State President and Rajya Sabha MP Shri Rajib Bhattacharjee, who happened to be passing through the area, emerged as an unexpected yet welcome figure of relief. Spotting the worsening gridlock, the MP stepped out of his vehicle and began personally guiding vehicles through the waterlogged roads.
With no police officers immediately visible, Shri Bhattacharjee coordinated with local drivers and pedestrians to ease traffic. His intervention not only reduced delays but also reassured the public of responsible leadership on the ground. “I saw him drenched in the rain, giving hand signals to vehicles. He didn’t hesitate,” said a local shop owner.
Photos and videos of the incident quickly circulated on social media, showing the MP actively assisting in clearing the congestion. Many citizens and party workers hailed his action as a true example of leadership by example.
Speaking to reporters, Shri Bhattacharjee said, “This is not about politics. As elected representatives, it is our duty to support people in difficult moments. When the system is overwhelmed, we must step up.”
The event not only highlighted the challenges posed by inadequate drainage systems in the capital but also cast a spotlight on the role of people-centric politics. The Math Chowmuhani incident has now sparked broader discussions on civic preparedness, with many demanding a long-term solution for urban flooding.
