Khayerpur Residents Protest for Administrative Restructuring

Local residents under the banner of the Khayerpur Local Area Committee staged a peaceful demonstration on Monday at the Gandhi statue near Circuit House, Agartala, demanding significant administrative changes to improve public service delivery in their region.

The primary demand of the protesters centres on the administrative transfer of four village committees from the Old Agartala RD Block to the Belbari RD Block. The villages in question are Radhamohanpur, Paschim Radhamohanpur, Bardhaman Thakur, and Dhup Chhera Village Committees.

According to the demonstrators, the current administrative arrangement poses considerable challenges for residents seeking to access essential government services. They argue that bringing these villages under the jurisdiction of the Belbari RD Block would streamline administrative processes and significantly reduce the difficulties faced by villagers in accessing public services.

The protest, which took place at the iconic location of the Gandhi statue, symbolically emphasised the peaceful nature of their demands. The choice of venue, near the Circuit House, also ensured visibility for their cause among government officials and public representatives.

The demonstrators stressed that this administrative reorganisation would not only benefit the residents of these four villages but would also lead to more efficient governance in the region. The protest highlights the ongoing challenges in rural administration and the need for periodic reassessment of administrative boundaries to better serve local communities.

Local authorities have yet to respond to these demands for administrative restructuring.
