On May 22, 2025, Tripura saw a major boost in rural development as two crucial projects were launched in the Gomati district. Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratanlal Nath laid the foundation stones for several initiatives aimed at empowering farmers, while Power Minister inaugurated a vital power substation, ensuring improved electricity access for thousands.
Minister Ratanlal Nath laid the foundation stone for a modern market stall at Kalaban Bazar under the Matabari Agriculture Sub-Division. Backed by the Agriculture Department, this ₹2.20 crore project will provide local farmers and traders with better infrastructure for selling their produce, thereby boosting local agri-based trade.
He also laid the foundation stone for the Matabari Agri Development Research-cum-Training Centre. This upcoming facility is designed to provide training to farmers in modern agricultural practices, soil health management, computer literacy, and video conferencing facilities. Minister Nath noted that the centre would open new opportunities for farmers to increase productivity and income.
Additionally, Nath attended a mega awareness camp in Garji under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The camp promoted the use of solar power to reduce electricity bills and encourage clean energy usage in rural households. A large number of residents participated enthusiastically, reflecting the growing interest in renewable energy in the region.
In a separate programme, Tripura Power Minister inaugurated a 33 KV Power Substation and a two-storey control room building in Garji, constructed at a cost of ₹17.75 crore. Funded jointly by the Government of India and the World Bank, the substation is expected to significantly improve the quality and reliability of power supply across Garji, Chandra Pur, Peratia, Tainani, Kalaban, Holakhet, Dataram, and Adipur areas.
The Power Minister highlighted that uninterrupted, high-quality electricity is vital for overall development, and the substation would directly benefit thousands of families by reducing outages and voltage fluctuations.
These back-to-back infrastructure initiatives underline the state government's commitment to comprehensive rural development — ensuring both power and agricultural support reach the grassroots.
